Earning Points

Points in akatoo are referred to as Interdisciplinary Knowledge Units (IKU). Every member has an IKU balance that is affected by how well they ask questions, rate answers, answer questions, their tenure within akatoo, as well as their level of expertise and reputation within the community. Demonstrating expertise in any category will also build your IKU fast. Other, proprietary variables influence members’ IKU, also, but to a lesser extent.

User Ratings – Total IKU

When you participate in the akatoo community, you gain IKU. Your total IKU lets you and fellow members know your total contribution to the akatoo community.

User Ratings – Categorical IKU

None of us is an expert in everything. Our varying areas of expertise are what make us unique. akatoo allows you to see how members of the community rate in different categories of knowledge. Some of us can rebuild an engine with our eyes closed; others play a wicked end-game in chess. Categorical IKU allow you to see how many questions a user has answered in a specific category along with their average rating in that category. This can be used to help you coordinate your rating decisions.
