Houdini had been renowned for many things, one of which was being able to take any punch. After a performance a man asked him if this was true and Houdini said yes. The man then punched Houdini several times to the stomach. Two problems. Houdini needed to "prepare himself" as he said before taking blows. Second, he was already ignoring apendicitus while performing. He then went to his next and last show in Detroit on October 24, 1926 without seeing a doctor. He was hospitalized after that final show, however the damage had been done. He died on October 31, 1926 from a burst appendix.
