How long does it take for a sea shell to form?

It very much depends on the type of animal creating the shell. It never takes a few million years, as any shell has to be created within the lifespan of an animal. Some may just take a few years to be full grown, and other might take 20-30 years (like a queen conch shell.)

The shells come from the animals. Animals use the shells as their protection. They don't find them, they create them, with the shells growing with the animal.
