The longest time a human has held his or her breath was 15 minutes and 58 seconds. It was accomplished by Arvydas Gaiciunas, a Lithuanian illusionist. He and his sister were chained to the bottom of an amusement park pool in front of a crowd of hundreds. It is unclear whether Guinnes Book of World Records officials were at the event. Regardless, it is the longest recorded time a human has held their breath. The following is a Fox news link: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,283613,00.html

David Blaine with 17 minutes and 4 seconds. It broke the previous record of 16 minutes and 32 seconds, set Feb. 10 by Switzerland's Peter Colat. Apparently this took place on the Oprah Winfrey show.
