Itís kinda like asking, why is meat so high in protein? or why does wheat contain so many carbohydrates? They just do. Itís the way they're made. Nuts have a lot of fat in them. However, it's the good fat. Does that mean you should eat a pound a day? no. it means that instead of picking up that Twinkie that's loaded with saturated fat (and maybe trans fat, I haven't checked out the nutrition facts lately) you should grab a handful of mixed nuts and snack that way.

They have a lot of fat! We do make peanut oil, soya bean oil and other such oils come from the nuts. That kind gives a clue about their calorie value- although they have good protein, the fat content is too high.
