The fact that I am able to answer this from experience makes me feel so old. In the 80's girls wore their hair big. The bigger, the better. If it was the glam look you were going for it was big and curly and always with a poof on top and sightly messy. Otherwise, the in look was a very full half up do with a big barrette and the poof.
