Lip care is similar to facial skincare, so you will treat it in the same fashion.
1. Exfoliate is necessary. Try brushing your lips with a wet toothbrush. If your lips are very dry, use the softer side of a nail file to do the job (use very light pressure)
2. Moisturize. Unlike many others, I would say steer clear of Vaseline. Vaseline is a refined version of petroleum, which is unhealthy. It also doesn't moisturize, what it does is form a layer on your skin which blocks any nutrients, moisture included from being absorbed into your lips. For your moisturizing needs, I would say purchase a vial of Emu Oil at a health food store and after you have applied your favorite chapstick, apply a couple drops of the oil. Emu Oil is the closest ph match to human skin ph. It is ultra penetrating and is a trans-dermal carrier, meaning it will take all the nutrients of your chapstick and deposit them deep within your skin.

First, make sure that you drink a lot of water and get your vitamins - my lips were really chapped and cracked and I realized I was barely drinking water (soda doesn't count). As for a product, I am using C.O. Bigelow Rose Salve http://www.bigelowchemists.com/product_info.php/cPath/356_357/products_id/4661. It is very soft and it doesn't look like you just put oil on your mouth. It is not minty or flavored or made with any bad chemicals. It has worked a lot in the past. Oh, and another hint, it is best to put on product right before you go to bed because you're not talking/eating during your sleep and this way the product can help heal your lips.

Mary Kay has a product called lip mask (I think). You put it on and wipe off with a cloth. Instantly your lips are smooth.

To get rid of the dry, flaky feeling, you have to exfoliate.
*Baby toothbrushes or soft washcloths are the best. After all, you want to exfoliate your lips not remove them.


If your lips are ridiculously chapped, don't mess around with cheapo chapstick. I recommend Aquaphor healing ointment. It can be found with the skincare products at your local drugstore. Bio-Oil is also a great product. Apply it frequently. Be sure to drink lots of water, and always always use an spf chapstick

An inexpensive and effecient product that heals dry lips INSTANTLY is Carmex's Lip Balm. It is only 99 cents at any WalMart and also contains 15 spf to protect your lips from harmful UV rays that can cause your lips to become dry and chapped. Works great to moisturize and protect. You can even wear it as a gloss!

"Blistex Lip Medex" has always worked for me during the most troubling times, and I have tried many chapsticks.

Brushing your teeth naturally exfoliates your lips. If your lips are really bad, after brushing, rinse your tooth brush and gently brush your lips in small circles. Always apply either petroleum jelly or chapstick every time after brusing.

Vaseline!!! Just apply a finger tip amount of Vaseline to the effected dry area's of your skin, such as the lips, or hands, and there you have it! instant healing!

Vaseline works really well; I use it all the time. I found a tip on youtube that shows how to make it especially effective for lips: You take an old tooth brush and lightly brush your lips with vaseline to help ex foliate them. Drinking lots of water to stay hydrated is also important and keep them protected from the weather by sealing the vaseline in with a waxier lip balm when you go outside so they don't dry out.
