How come my urine smells like Sugar Smacks after I eat, well, Sugar Smacks?

I know this to be true for at least a fourth of the responses to similar inquiries on various internet message boards. I know that I'm not the only one, and don't tell me that I have diabetes, because I know that not to be true either. My boyfriend and sister experience this as well so... what gives?

Since you emphasize that you do not have diabetes i assume you have been checked out? But i am curious why you didn't ask your doctor what is the cause of this smell? Anyone else reading this probably should get checked out. Anyways, on to the answer. Often sweet smells are a symptom of diabetes. However, if you are cleared of diabetes, ketonuria could be the cause, which comes from excessive dieting or other rare metabolic conditions. For example, a rare inborn metabolic syndrome called "maple syrup urine" occurs in infants and children, but this condition is associated with neurological problems and would not present itself in adulthood.

Of course, all urine parameters are affected by urine volume. Patients with very low fluid intake will have very concentrated urine, which is more likely to exude a particular odor. All unexplained symptoms should be evaluated by a physician. A standard urinalysis is an important first step, along with a careful history and a detailed physical examination.

I wish everyone would stop automatically assuming that I am unhealthy when this is something that happens *every single time* to myself, my boyfriend, *and* my sister.

There was an informal study done where a bunch of college students in the sciences ate entire packets of Purplesaurus Rex Kool-Aid and their excrement turned bright green. It was the natural combination of Blue #5 with the bile in their digestive system the produced a humorous and colorful result.

Did you ever think that perhaps there is something in Sugar Smacks that my body *doesn't* digest, rather it passes instead, that contributes to the smell of Sugar Smacks?

Occam's Razor, my friend... "All other things being equal, the simplest solution is the best."
